Portrait of Chris Trani

Chris Trani

Expanding possibilities for how we relate . . .
to ourselves,
to one another,
and to what life presents

What’s happening now?
What’s possible here?

These two questions are at the heart of Chris Trani’s work.

Whether the challenge is a conversation that feels impossible, a relationship or team that feels stuck, or an experience we’re struggling to navigate within ourselves, Chris helps people see more clearly what is happening — and discover possibilities for what might happen next.

Today her work finds expression in two areas that can stand entirely on their own or naturally inform one another.

When Conversations Matter

Expanding possibilities for relating to one another — through conversations

Some conversations are easy. Others we avoid, rehearse endlessly in our heads, stumble through, or convince ourselves are simply impossible.

Chris offers simple, straightforward, practical guidance to help people build the competence and confidence to move forward with conversations that matter.

Her approach begins with curiosity: What is happening now? What matters here? What might the other person be seeing that we aren’t? What are we hoping will be different? What’s possible here?

The goal isn’t the “perfect” conversation. It’s finding a way to move forward with greater clarity, awareness, and choice — and with the possibility that clarity, kindness, and honesty can coexist in the same conversation.

When Mindfulness Matters

Expanding possibilities for relating to our experience — through mindfulness

Mindfulness is about paying attention . . . paying attention to what we are experiencing inside us and around us — in real time.

Chris offers clear instruction and kind support to help people develop attention skills to notice and name what they are experiencing, leading to deeper understanding and greater choice in how they relate and respond to it.

A hallmark of Chris’s approach is taking mindfulness beyond sitting still in silence and bringing it into day-to-day life. Sitting can help us develop the skills; life gives us endless opportunities to use them. A conversation, a difficult emotion, a moment of uncertainty or simply an ordinary moment we might otherwise miss can all become part of the practice.

Chris is a trained teacher in Shinzen Young’s Unified Mindfulness System and has taught mindfulness to individuals, workplaces, graduate students, and retreat participants.

What people say about working with Chris

Many of Chris’s client relationships span well over a decade. Chris believes getting support shouldn’t be complicated. People can simply reach out when they need it — for things big or small.

“It’s time to call Chris.” When I’m stuck in a situation at home or work, that’s my first thought. Chris is masterful at creating a coaching space that simplifies the clutter in my mind and supports me in making a next step.

Chris approaches every situation with curiosity, deep expertise, and a genuinely warm presence. Each time I’ve partnered with her over many years to support teams across our organization, her creativity, adaptability, and positive energy have consistently elevated both the participant experience and my own.

Our city has worked with Chris for nearly a decade as a go-to resource for communication coaching. Her DiSC sessions with our leadership team facilitated easier cross-departmental working relationships. She’s effectively coached colleagues through challenges working together and provided 1:1 coaching to managers on a range of communication issues. Chris is quick to respond, understand and refine what’s needed, with clear pricing and timelines. I highly recommend adding Chris as a resource to your toolkit.

Chris has facilitated several conversations with my family over the years. She has a unique gift for creating a space that moves us past our deeply established patterns and habits so that everyone has a voice. She helps us find the words to express what needs to be said while gently reminding us to keep our ears and hearts open to one another.

Chris listens so intentionally and beautifully and asks me the perfect questions so I can see my way more clearly. The value I receive from her gets better all the time! I feel so fortunate to have Chris as a coach!!!

About Chris

Over the past five decades, Chris’s path to this work has been anything but linear. She has worked as an oncology nurse, manager, counselor, management development trainer and coach, business communication coach and facilitator, and mindfulness teacher. Along the way she earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and several other training certifications related to her work.

Rather than leaving those experiences behind as she moved from one chapter to another, each continued to inform how she listens, what she notices, the questions she asks, and how she helps people find their own way forward.

Her work is grounded in curiosity, practicality, and a belief that people often have more possibilities available to them than they can see from where they are standing.
